Raleigh-Cary rental rates outpacing wages

RALEIGH – Renters in Raleigh-Cary need to earn $16.88 an hour in order to afford a basic apartment.As things stand nowadays, however, the typical renter earns $12.98 an hour, $3.90 below the basic housing wage.Such are the conclusions of a new report, “Out of Reach 2013,” by the Washington-based National Low Income Housing Coalition and the North Carolina Housing Coalition.“More people in the Raleigh-Cary area are renting now because they see it as a less expensive option than owning…
